Our Story Begins in 2009 

2009 - A man in a van with a plan! 

Scott had been working in the pet industry since 2002. A time when there was a distinct lack of colour & innovation in the pet accessories market. In 2009 Miro Makauri was started with a modest mission of injecting some colour into the market place. A loan was sought and a colourful range of rope leads was bought.

2011 - Selling by day. Designing at night.

Visiting shops by day, Scott spotted what was to become a game changer for Miro & Makauri. In the market place, leads, collars, & harness' had a lot of blacks, reds, & blues, but where were all the fun, bright colours? From there the Miro & Makauri Nylon Range was born – full of colour, It landed well.... Really well.... In fact, by 2013, it was followed up with the Air Mesh Step-In Harness Range in matching colours.
This positioned Miro & Makauri as innovators in the market place. This company was bringing something new to the table – and people noticed.

2016 - Trip to a museum with Oscar

A trip to a museum with his son, Scott chanced upon an exhibition on sustainability. Majoring in environmental geography at university, Scott was intrigued.
An exhibit on pet food and the hidden environmental cost of meat production in the Pet Industry was thought provoking.
To introduce a range of dog snacks that doesn't use meat and is environmentally sustainable?
A treat without meat?
Lets do it !.......The Maks'Patch revolution was conceived.



2017 - Maks'Patch introduced to UK

At the beginning there was resistance to our message. "A Treat without Meat" We had to spread our message that Maks'Patch was a healthy sustainable alternative, not to replace the meat based meal, but to have a plant based snack in between meals.
Slowly, the message started to resonate. Maks’Patch wasn’t just different — it made sense. And more and more people (and dogs) started to agree.

2020 - Winning the challenge.

By 2020, Maks’Patch had made its mark. We were in shops across the UK, and over 5 million snacks had been snapped up and the feedback was incredible.

At last we had not only created a snack that was healthy, sustainable & delicious, but it ticked another box, it was hypoallergenic with low purine. An army of dog owners, thanked us for a treat their dog could eat without issue.


2025 - Moving Forward

Moving forward our mission statement remains the same. For accessories, its important that we continue to provide quality products that consumers can trust, at a price which is affordable to all.
Maks'Patch have now introduced over 30 sku's to their range, as of 2025 sold 22 million snacks and eliminated over 1 million plastic bags from the system by using cardboard pick n mix style retail boxes. 
We fulfilled our objective and if we continue to offer healthy, sustainable, meat free treats 
then that makes us happy.
Our story continues in other countries now, where Maks'Patch can be purchased throughout Canada, New Zealand and soon to be Australia. "The revolution to Treat without Meat" is going global!
